Vernon passed away peacefully at NRGH palliative care unit on November 26 at the age of 91. Vern is survived by his wife of 67 years Florence, daughter Linda (Bob) Crampton, son Tom (Christine) Foy, stepdaughter Judi Bain, grandchildren Carmen (Dave) Hammond, Christina Crampton, Glyn (Laurie) Thomas, Jordan Foy, Ashlee Foy, Courtland Bain, Jeff (Angie) Bain, and great grandchildren Kadyn, Emily, Jacob, Matthew, Caitlyn, Eve-Lynn.
Vern was born in Westmeath, Ontario, grew up in Indian Head, Saskatchewan where he served briefly with Canadian military and moved to Nanaimo as a young adult. Vern worked in the forest industry for well over three decades with MacMillan Bloedel and Weyerhaeuser. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, working with small engines and general tinkering in his shop, and near daily trips to Tim Hortons. Vern was a devoted family man and always had time to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Vern also gave back to his community as a long-term member of The Loyal Order of Moose.
Vern is going to sorely missed by his family and friends. We would like to thank those who expressed condolences and offers of support at the difficult time. By Vern’s request there will be no service.
