Verna (nee Weronika Kaldun) was born in a tiny village in Poland and came to Canada as a small child with her family. Although Verna's family were tenant farmers and later small hotel owners in Saskatchewan, Verna always had larger ambitions.

After attending business college and working in Winnipeg for a few years, Verna moved to Toronto where she had a successful career as a telegraph operator for the CN. She met her husband Gord Buch and married in 1956. They had two children together. They spent their first thirty years of marriage in Oakville, ON.

Verna was a warm and friendly woman who had many talents, which included being a champion 5 and 10 pin bowler as well as a master bridge player (silver level) and teacher.

In later years Verna and Gord moved to Nanaimo BC. where they enjoyed a long and pleasant retirement. Verna will be sadly missed by husband Gord, children Lynda and Gordon and her many friends.
