Vera Johansen
December 23, 1925 - October 4, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing our beloved mother Vera. Coming from Swedish roots, Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The family later settled in Vancouver, B.C. where she met Dad. They married and moved to Nanaimo where they raised their family.
Mom and Dad were founding active members of the Sons of Norway which they thoroughly enjoyed. She took on the position there of secretary for a number of years and was proud of that.
Mom enjoyed sewing in her earlier years and was very good at it. In later years, Mom did some travelling including Scandinavia, Spain and Hawaii.
Predeceased by her husband and our Dad Hilmar in 2012, also brothers Gus and Eric, she leaves behind children Judy (Doug), Ray and Carol (Serge), sisters-in-law Sigrid and Dorothy, grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
We would like to give special thanks to Connie and all the staff at
Woodgrove Manor where Mom resided and especially nurse Sheila for her kindness and support.
There will be a private family interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens and Celebration of Life at a later date.
