Gerrit (Gerry) Van Biert

Aug. 18, 1926 - Jan. 05 2012

Gerry passed away with his family by his side at the Chemanius Health Care Centre, where he has resided over the last 3 1/2 years. Left to mourn are his wife Trudi (of 57 Years). His children, Trudi, Tony (Cathy), Garry, Connie, and Yvonne (Ken). He was predeceaced by his sons-in laws, Bert and Dave. He will also be missed by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gerry immigrated to Canada in 1954 from Holland. Trudi joined him a short time later, and the adventure began. Early on, Gerry discovered his passion for dairy farming, which he carried on until 1988. One of Gerry’s dreams was to travel around the world, which he and Trudi fulfilled in 1982. They went on to spend many winters in Arizona, and later in Mexico, soaking up the sun. Gerry always enjoyed a good “discussion” with his friends. Many people will remember him as that crazy bicycle rider, that never watched where he was going on Quesnel Rd! He took life seriously when he needed to, but also knew how to have fun! Gerry enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, and was known to keep the Sally Ann soup kitchen supplied with his excess veggies.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Chemanius Health Care Centre, where he was treated with the utmost care and compassion at all times. We appreciate the joy that you brought to his life.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that PLEASE make a donation to Alzheimer’s Society, or The Canandian Cancer Society.

There will be a private graveside service for family members, with a service to follow at 1 pm. Jan. 10, at Christ Community Church at Northfield and Bowen.
