Thomas S. Taylor

July 3, 2016

April 4,1931 to July 3, 2016 Tom passed away in Nanaimo Regional Hospital surrounded by family after a brief struggle with cancer. Born in Dunoon, Scotland, Tom married the love of his life Rebecca in 1953, and they rst lived in Paisley Scotland where he served his apprenticeship as a butcher. They had met as members of the Scottish Youth Hostels Group when Tom was just 16 and shared the love of the outdoors all their lives. With their toddler in tow, they emigrated to Canada in March 1957 and settled in South Vancouver. Tom enjoyed his career as a meat cutter and was highly regarded by his customers and his employers over his many years of service. He retired as the longest serving Meat Manager for IGA, H.Y. Louie in 1992, and he and Rebecca moved to Nanaimo the same year. Blessed with good health, great neighbours and old friends around them, they enjoyed many cruises and trips to Hawaii and Mexico. Their last trip was a cruise this past February down to the Baja peninsula. Often seen riding his bike around town sometimes loaded with groceries, Tom was t and happiest talking to all the great people he met on his travels. His last bike ride to the stores was only 5 weeks before his passing. Survived by wife Rebecca, daughter Elaine Hay, son Ray Taylor (Carol), grandson Ryan Hay (Courtney), granddaughters Brianne Dyck (Kevin) and Carly Taylor. The family thanks all the wonderful doctors and nurses that assisted Tom at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital, and are especially thankful to Dr Wayne Jones his GP, and Dr Bernstein at the Royal Jubilee Cancer Clinic. Last, but not least, to all the wonderful neighbours on Alder Way, no words can begin to thank you enough for your love and support. “Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free” Celebration of Toms life will be held on Friday July 15, 10 am at the 1st Memorial Funeral Home on Bowen Road. In lieu of owers the family suggests donations be made to BC SPCA Nanaimo in his name and would be greatly appreciated.
