Theda Geraldine Mackie

November 10, 1912 ~ November 23, 2009

Theda at age 97 years, passed away peacefully on November 23 at Kiwanis Lodge – born and raised at Chase River, B.C. She is predeceased by her parents John & Hilja Maki. Theda is survived by her cousins Edna Dunn, Joann Dunn and Doris Griffiths and many other relatives and friends.

Theda lived in Vancouver from 1932 – 2002 and worked for the B.C. Telephone Co. for 42 years. She had a passion to travel seeing many places of the world, was an avid walker and bird watcher, an accomplished photographer showing her slides of trips to various organizations. She was a long time active member of the Vancouver Natural History Society, B.C. Telephone Pioneers, Brock House, WestEnd Walkers, and several other clubs. Her appreciation for the beauty of nature and wildlife filled her life with pleasure.

Theda returned to Nanaimo in 2002 where she lived at Berwick on the Lake for 5 years and then moved to Kiwanis Lodge for her last 2 years.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Lane and extend appreciation to the Staff at Berwick on the Lake and Kiwanis Lodge, and to her special caregiver Grace for her friendship and care, also to her good friend June for her many pleasurable visits from Vancouver.
