Thanh Tang

January 28, 1942 – November 26, 2016

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Thanh Tang of Nanaimo, BC on November 26, 2016.

Thanh is survived by the love-of-his-life, his wife (Hang) and five children Hung (Chau), Hai (Lisa), Tegan (Jim), Cuong (Sarah), and Nam. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren.

Thanh was born to Chinese parents who were in the tea business in Vietnam. Thanh fell in love and married Hang in Vietnam in 1965. The family immigrated to Canada in 1980. From the first day of arriving in Nanaimo, Thanh was optimistic and committed to providing a positive and wonderful new life of opportunities for the family. Over a 36 year period, he worked hard in different jobs in the retail, restaurant and shellfish business.

Thanh is best known for his beautiful smile, generosity and helpfulness to others, and, most importantly, his openness and acceptance of people from different cultures. He demonstrated this throughout his life by marrying the love-of-his-life who was Vietnamese versus Chinese, and by always supporting his children’s educational and partner choices.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dufferin Place for the outstanding care of their father over the past six months.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2016 from 10 am to 12 pm, at Telford Burial Centre, in Nanaimo, BC with internment to follow at the Chinese Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Thanh’s life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Telford Centre at 595 Townsite Street, Nanaimo, BC.
