Terrance (Terry) Anthony Windecker passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022. He was 73. He spent his final days at his favourite place, doing what he loved. Terry is survived by his wife, Barbara, three children, Robert, Lindsay and Katherine, two grandsons, and his brother, Allen.
Terry was born in Manitoba and called Nanaimo home since age five. He made many friends in his seven decades here. Whether you knew him from his youth, roaming the city with his brothers, from his flooring company, from the squash court, from the Nanaimo boating community, or from Mudge Island, you would have encountered his friendly smile, busy optimism, and work-hard-play-hard style.
Possessing an innate knack for building and fixing almost anything, Terry always had a project on the go. He was never afraid to try something new. He used his considerable skill to build Wingren Floors with his business partner Dave, his home in Nanaimo, and his cabin on Mudge. To Terry, every obstacle could be overcome with hard work.
After selling Wingren in 2016, Terry spent his days tending the garden on Mudge, working on a cedar strip canoe at home in Nanaimo, and enjoying time with friends and family in the places he had built. He was immensely proud of everything he achieved in life and was always ready to share a tale over a game of cribbage. Terry is loved and will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Terry at the Nanaimo Yacht Club on Sunday, November 20 from 2-4 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in his name to the Mudge Island Citizen’s Society.
