In loving memory ~

Steve passed away at Wexford Creek in Nanaimo after a long battle with dementia. Steve was born near Elk Point, Alberta, the eldest son of Mary & Ludwig Stefanek. When he was five the family moved to Wellington.

He is survived by his loving wife June, his three children Kurt, Gail (Bruce), and Larry (Ruth), grandchildren Evan (Deia), and Larissa, brother David (Pat) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a talented heavy-duty mechanic, carpenter and pipefitter. He also enjoyed working on all the family cars and he could fix anything around the house.

In 1951 at the age of 18 Steve worked at the MacMillan Bloedel Sarita River camp as a heavy-duty mechanic.

In November 1953 Steve started working at Harmac as a machine room helper and through the years worked his way up to lead hand. He retired from the mill at the age of 61 after 41 years and belonged to the Harmac retirees club.

Steve was an avid fisherman and built his own 14-foot wooden boat in 1959. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, bowling, dancing and spending time with family and friends. He also volunteered his time as a manager and coach with youth soccer in Nanaimo. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank the staff at Wexford Creek for his care.

There will be no memorial service.
