1931- 2019 ~ Stella Lemczyk went on to ever-lasting life May 19 after a short period of declining health. Formerly of New Hamburg, ON, Stella was living at Kiwanis Lodge.
Stella was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Lemczyk in 2003 and sisters Mary (John) Lewandowski and Wanda (Jacob) Luczynski and survived by her sister Jane Klepek. She is survived by her loving family here in Nanaimo; daughter Betty (Warren) McCormick, as well as daughter Theresa (Pat) Heslin (Orillia, ON) and son Tom (Phoenix, AZ). She is also survived by many grandchildren (Matthew (Yumi) and Tina (Mike and great-grandchild Sheridan); Chris, Michelle (Chris and great-grandchild Lola), Jennifer and Michael.
Stella was born in Rottorf, southern Germany and met Bill in an allied camp after the Second World War. Stella and Bill immigrated to Canada in 1950 along with thousands of others displaced by the war. She followed Bill to Southern Ontario to work on a tobacco farm, her first job being to cook dinner for dozens of hungry field workers at the age of 19. They later moved to New Hamburg to raise their three children.
Stella came to Nanaimo in 2010 following the death of Bill and her sister, Mary, first living at Lakeside Gardens and then Kiwanis Lodge. Baba (as known to the grand and great-grandchildren) will be greatly missed by all. Sunday dinners will never be the same.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and care staff at Kiwanis Lodge for the kind and thoughtful care offered to Stella over the past few years.
A memorial service will be said for Stella at Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday May 25 at 11 am followed by a short reception. Interment will be at a later date in Ontario.
