August 16, 1934 - February 4, 2021
With profound sadness we announce the February 4th, 2021 passing of Shirley Winkler-Vint after a 10-month battle with cancer. She was 86 years old.
Shirley is mourned by her 3 children Barbara, Lori and Kerry and their spouses; her 5 beloved grandchildren and her treasured 4 great-grandchildren; her husband of 10 years, Brian Vint and his 2 daughters Brenda and Leanne. She is predeceased in 2009 by her first husband of 56 years, Dale Winkler.
Born August 16, 1934, Shirley grew up in Vermillion, Alberta. At the age of 16, she moved to Vancouver, where she graduated high school and worked before moving to Nanaimo with her new husband in 1956.
Family, friends and community service were the central themes of Shirley's life. With boundless energy and always with a smile, she fully engaged life. An avid skier until 83 years old, Shirley was always eager to dance, golf, play bridge, travel or simply sit around a campfire with friends and family. We are blessed to have many treasured memories. She remained an active volunteer with her church and various social agencies throughout Nanaimo up until her illness.
We have lost a great lady. She will be missed.
