Sherry Mauro passed away on January 9th 2021 with her son and daughter by her side. Although she struggled with metastatic bile duct cancer, she remained strong and independent until the end.
She was loved by all her family and the loss is deeply felt by her son Lyle (Lena) and daughter Michelle (Brett), as well as grandchildren (Caitlyn, Evan, Erika, Rachel) and step-grandchildren (Curtis, Alissa). She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins on both sides of her family that remained very special to her. She had many friends and family that were very important to her right to the end.
Sherry was born in Vernon B.C to parents Doris & Douglas Mauro, and had a younger brother Stan. She grew up in North Vancouver B.C., moving to Victoria in 1965 after her marriage to Glen. They also lived in Thunder Bay, but moved to Nanaimo in 1973, where she remained the rest of her life.
Sherry spent the majority of her working life as a Realtor in Nanaimo, working at Block Brothers, Nanaimo Realty, and Trend Realty (Realty Executives). During this period she went by her married name (Parsons), but reverted back to her maiden name (Mauro) after her divorce.
Once retired, Sherry loved spending time in her gorgeous garden. She was an avid reader, and had small dogs at her side for many years - at one time she had four Bichon Frise dogs! She was very active in community groups, as well as on-line, with regard to gardening, neighbourhood groups, and the Bichon group.
Lyle and Michelle would like to say thank-you to the caring nurses and doctor at the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit, who cared for their mom on January 8th and 9th with great kindness.
