November 17, 1966 - August 4, 2024
In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts we share the news that "Shanny" left our world August 4th, 2024. She was born in Nanaimo to Glenn & Gloria Matticks, a shining star in the eyes of her parents and proud sister to her brother Terry. The family was close-knit living a life of adventure, and they are now all together once more.
Shannon was incredibly brave. She faced the loss of her beloved dad in a logging accident when she was only twelve, the summer of 1979. Her mother Gloria passed suddenly on Mother's Day (1999), and her brother Terry died in a tragic accident (2000). She endured a battle with cancer stoically over the last four years and was looking forward to returning to her job at BC Ferries soon.
While Shannon was blessed with great beauty, she remained humble. Shannon was at home on the ocean, gathering with family, tending her plants, or traveling to warm climates to soak in the sun. Passions she inherited from her mom, who was a huge influence in Shannon's life.
Shanny is survived by partner Bill Ball, Uncle Larry & Aunty Dianne Kristiansen, Uncle Paul & Aunty Dianne Kristiansen, cousins Kai (Heather; and their sons Kale & Alec) & Clayton (Megan) and niece Keisa Matticks. She is also remembered by her Hanson cousins: Shelly, Glenda, and Gaylene and their families. Many lifelong friends will hold Shannon close in their hearts. She was so happy to enjoy many hugs & reconnections at her recent NDSS 40th Class Reunion. Life is now a full circle for Shannon, and we will miss her smile, her courage, and her love. The family thanks Dr. Mark Allison for his kind care of Shannon over the years. A future celebration to be announced.
