December 9, 1950 - July 24, 2021
Scott passed away Saturday morning, July 24, after courageously living with brain cancer for 7 years. Born & raised in Victoria, Scott enjoyed being part of the UVic Rowing team & contributing to the University newspaper, The Martlett, as a photographer. A lifelong Islander, Scott married his wife Annette in 1973 & settled in Qualicum Beach, where he started his successful Scott Tanner Painting & Decorating Company..
Proud father of two daughters, Gillian & Candace, Scott was an active volunteer with several Oceanside youth groups. Scott's focus on the greater community, initiated a passion for preserving Qualicum Beach's heritage. As a founding director and member of the following societies: Qualicum Beach Stream keepers, Qualicum Beach Environment Committee, Rose-wall Bonnell Land Trust and founding President of the Brown Property Preservation Society (Heritage Forest), Scott continued to work diligently towards the preservation of Cathedral Grove.
Scott served two terms on Qualicum Beach Council where he especially enjoyed the Oceanside Community for Quality Education Committee & among many other duties, being the Chair of the Town Planning Commission.
Scott led annual Earth Day & Rivers Day nature hikes into the Little Qualicum River Salmon Forest. It was Scott's dream that the Town of Qualicum Beach would one day preserve this critical 60-hectare forested salmon river & drinking watershed in order to preserve into perpetuity, the excellent quality of our drinking water.
In addition to Annette, Gillian (Marc) & Candace, Scott will be missed by his sisters Carolyn & Denise & especially by his grandson Sebastien. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am, Saturday, August 7, at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road, Parksville.
Reception to follow 1 pm, Qualicum Beach Civic Centre, 747 Jones St., Qualicum Beach. A food hamper will be provided at the church and at the reception for non-perishable items for the community that Scott loved.
