SARAH GUEULETTE

December 20, 2016

GUEULETTE, Sarah

1918- 2016

Sarah passed away peacefully at Dufferin Place on December 20, 2016, 4 days after her 98th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Bill and Jack, sister Mary Robinson, husband August and son Ken. She is survived by son Brian and his wife Laura, daughter-in-law Sue, grandchildren Edward, David (Trish) & Thomas (Crystal) Gueulette, Paula Solmie (Paul) and Tara (Mike) Gueulette. Sarah also had 9 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Born to Thomas and Jane Ostle in Aspatria, Cumbria, England on December 16, 1918, Sarah came to Canada with her parents in the summer of 1919, and the family settled in the Nanaimo area, where she spent her entire life. She was the consummate “home maker”, never happier than when she was cleaning house, baking, knitting, working in the garden, and looking after her family. She was a great hostess. When August passed away in 1976, she worked for a time at Eaton’s Department Store, and kept busy bowling, and playing Cribbage at the Bowen Seniors. Sarah liked nothing better than to be surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dufferin Place for taking such good care of Sarah for the past two years.

A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2 pm, with reception to follow in the St. Matthew Room at St. Paul’s Anglican church Centre for Ministry on Chapel Street. Donations in Sarah’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
