In Loving Memory (1945-2024) ~
Roy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His calling was education and he taught for over 35 years mostly in St. James-Assiniboia School Division. Here he formed lifelong friendships with many of his work colleagues. As well, lifelong friendships were formed through social activities.
In 2002 retirement brought Roy and Sharon to Nanaimo. Roy with his outgoing personality quickly grew a new circle of friends including our neighbours and people met through activities. Time was filled with curling in a variety of leagues, golfing with many groups, walking/hiking the Island, and enjoying the array of cultural activities Nanaimo offered. Music was always close to his heart enjoying the VI Symphony, Port Theatre show, and choral performances. He loved nothing better than a sing along or an opportunity to dance.
He enjoyed live theatre at Western Edge, NTG, and Theatre One. Social activities included lots of dinner parties that included wine and dancing.
Roy always enjoyed a party and was often the life of the party. Travelling and exploring places near and far were highlights of these years including frequent trips to Manitoba. Cruises became the vehicle to sample lots of places in a short time.
Roy was an amazing kind and loving husband to Sharon and father to Kelly-Anne (Richard). Their loss is immeasurable. Their hearts are forever broken. He is gone much too soon.
Roy faced a double battle of cancer and Alzheimer's but took things in stride and together we found a new rhythm to our lives still filled with love and joy.
There is no service by request.
Throw a few curling rocks, hit some golf balls, sip some wine and hug your loved ones.
