We are very sad to announce the sudden passing of Roy Milbrath on Aug.12, 2019 at Keeping House. Due to a stroke, 4 1/2 years ago, Roy resided both at home and at Keeping House. Heartfelt thanks to Brent, Natasha, Nancy and Colby and staff at Keeping House for their kind care of Roy.
Roy was predeceased by his brother Ron, his sister in law Joyce, and both his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dianne, his four children; Cari (Brandon), Janis (Barry), Rob, Kelly (Tony), the mother of his children, Barb Taylor, his stepsons; Greg (Kevin), Randy (Jennifer) and his grandchildren; Amanda (Dustin), Jake, Cassidy, Tommy, Taylor, Madison, Anthony, Cameron, Abby and Katie and great grandson, Liam. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Dianne), sister Joanne (Bob) sister in law Marilyn and brother in law Richard (Sue) and many nieces and nephews.
Roy was born in Calgary Alta. And joined the RCMP in his early twenties. His first posting was to BC and subsequent postings were to various locations in the lower mainland, Vernon and finally Nanaimo BC, where he retired.
He spent 26 of his retirement years with Dianne on their 5 acres in Yellow Point, his favorite place for building projects, puttering in his shop and walking his many beloved dogs. He also enjoyed fishing trips and building with his "bro" Richard and traveling with Dianne to many countries in the world. Always open to new experiences, he obtained a Small Engine Repair certificate from VIU and operated a small fence building company for a short time. Roy was always willing to share his time and building/ repairing knowledge with friends, family and neighbors and many have one of his woodworking products in their homes.
Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be profoundly missed. His memory will be in our hearts, always.
As was requested, there will be a private family memorial. This will be followed by an open house on Aug. 28th. From 1-3 in the afternoon. RSVP milbrath@shaw.ca for information.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SPCA or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
