Ross passed away peacefully at NRGH with family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by son Spencer (Kelsey), daughter Tessa (Zeke), grandchildren Naiyobi and Scarlett, brother Scott (Colleen), sister Karen Brocklehurst (Des), and mother of his children Betty-Jo. He also leaves behind his nieces, nephew, and their families.
Ross was born in Victoria, lived briefly in Port Alberni, and had been a life-long resident of Nanaimo since the age of four. In the seventies, he had some great adventures backpacking in Europe and Australia, living briefly in London and Sydney during his travels.
Ross was a good athlete. Among his sports were hockey and soccer as a kid, then rugby, football, and soccer as a teen. He continued with soccer into his 30's. He was a force on the field and developed many good friendships. Oh yeah, they had lots of good times as well!
Ross took up golf after retiring from soccer and it became his passion. Nanaimo Golf Club was like a second home to him and the Saturday group was like a second family. The annual golf trips were always a highlight. This past year he looked forward to the Thursday afternoon visits until Covid restrictions shut them down.
The most important thing in Ross' life was family. He especially enjoyed the big family Christmas celebrations. We will always remember his great smile and booming laugh. Ross also loved spending time at the Nanaimo River property that he shared with a close group of friends. Spencer and Tessa have so many fond memories of camping there. It was wonderful to see his joy whenever he spoke about Naiyobi and Scarlett - he loved having them in his life.
Ross was so very appreciative of the care and meals that Karen and BJ lovingly provided him over the past year. They kept him healthy and positive.
At Ross' request, due to the ongoing Covid restrictions, no memorial service will be held. A small family gathering will be arranged later this year.
