Ronald Stanley Osborne

May 2, 1927 - November 25, 2019
Born in London, UK, Ron was 12 years of age when the war broke out. He was evacuated north of the city near King's Lynn with 2 of his 10 siblings. During this time away from home his father was killed in the London Bombings of WW2. In 1941, at the young age of 14 years he returned to London and began training as a maintenance engineer, eventually joining the
Merchant Navy.
At age 16 he began various missions, around northern Scotland, across the Atlantic to New York, back to Egypt, France, Greece, Naples & West Africa. Ron's family was started in New Zealand in 1950. Six years later they moved to Canada with his employer, Burroughs Business Machines, settling in North Vancouver, BC.
In 1973 Ron's marriage dissolved and he left the business world, moving to Cedar, on Vancouver Island. For almost 20 years he enjoyed working at Macmillan Bloedel (Harmac).
Retirement gave Ron the freedom to travel at least annually (often twice a year) to his beloved London, UK where he would visit his many relatives and friends.
Survived by one brother, Victor, 4 daughters, Barbara, Jacqueline, Deborah (Robert), & Gillian (Gregg), 8 grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ron is predeceased by his mother, Emily Wright (Osborne) (1889-1958), his father, Edward Osborne (1876-1940) as well as siblings, William, Fred, Ted, Rose, Jessie, Lillian, Robert, Thomas & Brian.
Celebration of Life to be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #10 (129 Harewood Rd, Nanaimo, BC) on Sunday, January 19, 2020 1 pm - 3 pm. Flowers gratefully declined.
