April 10, 1940 - December 26, 2019
It is with profound sadness that the family of Romano Basic announce his peaceful passing on December 26, 2019. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was born in Barban, Croatia and travelled with his growing family to Canada in 1967. Romano and Milka settled in Nanaimo after their retirement in 2002.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Milka and his children David (Laurie), Doris and Tanja (Alan). Didi will be terribly missed by his grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, Grayden, Gresham and Renata.
Romano always enjoyed spending time in his garden and playing cards with his family and friends. As an animal lover he always had treats and smiles for all the neighbourhood dogs. Romano was an avid soccer fan and a skilled bocce player.
He was passionate about education and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren's educational pursuits and accomplishments.
The family would like to express thanks to the Palliative Care Unit for their compassion and care. Also, much gratitude to friends and neighbours for their overwhelming expressions of support.
A celebration of life will be planned for the summer when family and friends can all come together.
