Robin Dallas

April 8, 1941 – January 20, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robin Dallas, with his loving wife at his side. Robin is survived by his wife Delores; son Troy (Stacey); daughter Tanya (Kevin); three grand-daughters Mackenzie, Kailee, and Keira. He also leaves behind brothers Michael, Leon, and Ray; and sisters Tina (Barry), and Kim (John), all still living in the U.K. In January 1994, Robin took Delores to England to meet his family. All went well and they went back as much as they could to see family, but also to do a lot of sightseeing.

Robin was born in Portsmouth, U.K. He immigrated to Canada in 1969 and found himself on the Calgary tarmac with one suitcase, his work boots around his neck, and $100 in his pocket. Once settled, he found work in Calgary, but then went to work in northern Alberta, then to Vancouver, and finally to Nanaimo. Once here, he decided this was where he wanted to stay. He made Nanaimo his home base and went where the work was. He was skilled at plumbing and proud of his work. He was loyal, dependable, loving, with a great sense of humour. He had this funny laugh which will be missed and never forgotten. Of course soccer was his favourite sport and if he thought the referee made the wrong call or a player didn’t do what he thought he should have done, he was very vocal about it. The game may have been in England but the noise was in Nanaimo! Robin loved the Island and camping and fishing, especially at Nanaimo Lakes. Number 6 was the best – you had your own beach. When it got dark he would come up. In the morning, he would go back down and wait for his coffee.

Thank you to Dr. Helmut Mark for all the years of taking care of Robin and to the staff in Palliative Care for their gentleness and kindness.

A Memorial Service was held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Trinity United Church in Nanaimo.

Robin fought valorously until the very end, and he will be deeply missed. Rest in Peace Robin.
