In the wee hours of January 20th, 2014 our father, grandfather, mentor and friend was taken by the angels above.

Dad was born in Linlithgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in August of 1921. As a young man, he worked in the mines in Cumberland and then in the forest industry on Vancouver Island as a faller. Dad joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment in 1939 and served overseas during World War II returning to Canada in 1945. He was one of the fortunate who returned to start a family. Dad continued to work as a logger and then a Commissionaire until his retirement.

Robert is survived by his loving children: Robert Miller (Glenda), Sharon Thomas, Jack Miller (Lois), Marilyn Smith (Wade), Rod Miller (Catherine), and Heather Tilley (Randy); step-daughter, Gloria Hallstrom (Dave) and family; step-son Ben Williams (Barb); fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren with number twenty-two on the way. He will be fondly remembered by a loving and caring lady, Ueanna Marshall as well as many long-time friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

May he roam in the fields of heather with his beloved dog Clyde, fish in lakes filled with an abundance of trout, have his motor start on the first pull on every fishing trip, and have the sun shine on every camping trip!

A tea will be held for family and friends at Cavallotti Lodge, 2060 East Wellington Road, Nanaimo, BC on February 1st, 2014 from 1-5p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, in his memory.

In a small wooden box, penned by his own hand dated February 1987, was a letter left to his children with these final words to us…

“…I don’t want you to grieve for me as life must go on for you.

So we’ll meet again one day. Love, Dad”

May you rest your head in peace Dad. You will forever be in our hearts.
