It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and friend at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Born to Dr. Harold and Cecilia Davies in Winnipeg, Bob had a lifelong love of learning, music, travel and most of all, family.
Bob married Lila McAmmond in 1968 and they have two sons, Robb and Joel.
Bob worked in education all his adult life, as an elementary, middle school and high school teacher, both in Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg. He served as Inner City Consultant for Winnipeg School Division and on the National Inner-City Council.
He was blessed with cast iron integrity and a vast supply of patience, humour and kindness. His last position was Principal of Fort Rouge Elementary School in downtown Winnipeg.
Bob and his staff worked at enriching lives in the area - programs involving students, parents, local chiefs, and politicians who helped with program funding, including providing education and graduation for some of the school moms. Bob loved being involved with the community and the kids, and the feeling was mutual.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and his brother Jim.
He will be dearly missed by his loving family - wife of 55 years Lila; sons Robb and Joel; grand-daughter Rhyanna; brother-in-law Douglas McAmmond; sisters-in-law Barbara (Ross) Burgess, Colleen McAmmond, Maureen (Henry) Matejka and Donna Ludford; as well as many friends, including extended family at our home in Harbour Towers.
Bob enjoyed time spent curling, golfing, playing bridge and exercising at Bowen Seniors. But most of all, his life was about family and friends. Fun was summers at Falcon Lake with the boys, time spent with them at our friends' farm, walking the parks in Nanaimo and enjoying family visits every summer. He enjoyed being an uncle and a "Gruncle" to grandnieces in Alberta and Ontario.
Many thanks to the nursing and medical staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their expertise, hard work and care. At Bob's request, there will be no formal funeral. Immediate family and close friends will gather during the summer to raise a glass and tell tall tales.
