April 28, 1929 – June 9, 2016
Bob passed away peacefully on June 9th after a long illness, at Dover House, Nanaimo, BC. Born in Tofino to Donald and Williamina MacKenzie, he was the youngest of nine children. Lovingly remembered by his wife Doris, son Donald (Heather), daughters Kathleen (Kathy), Marianne (Bruno) Garrecht, Bonnie (Dan), 6 grandchildren Aaron (Charlotte), Allison (Carl), Nadine, Ryan (Samantha), Darcy (Carmen), Michelle (Dan), 8 great grand children Kiera, Kaden, Kade, Rhys, Angus, Natalie, Lachlan and Evelyn. Predeceased by son Roderick (Roddy) 1975 and son-in-law Guy Paterson, siblings Rosalinn, Donald, Ian (John), Alice, Wilhelmina (Bunty), Jessie (Tess), Kenneth and Leslie.
Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends, a favourite uncle to his many nieces and nephews he liked a good joke and always had one ready for any occasion. A resident of Tofino for 65 years he was an avid outdoorsman, Bob liked to fish, hunt, in the later years to garden. He always found the time to lend a helping hand to friends, family and total strangers when needed. He will be missed by many.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care Bob received while at Dover House. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A celebration of life will be held at Brechin United Church, 1998 Estevan Rd, Nanaimo, BC on Saturday, June 18th at 2 pm.
