It is with great sadness that the family announces that Bert passed away on April 21, 2018 after a short illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen, and daughters Judy (George), Lynn (John) and Lori (Bob). A loving grandpa/papa to Kimberley, Christopher, Scott, Ryan, Tom and Dan and great grandchildren, Gus, Jacob, Lily, Charlotte and Sydney. Bert is also survived by his sister Ruth, brother Ian (Erna), sister-in-law Gladys, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Jim and sister Ness.
Bert was born in Scotland on March 2, 1924, arriving in Canada in 1926. He was a proud WWII veteran, serving with Lord Strathcona's Horse tank division. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy years golfing and curling in New Westminster and Nanaimo. Many will remember seeing Bert out and about in Nanaimo on one of his marathon walks.
The family is so grateful for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Bert during his short stay at NRGH and the Palliative Care Unit.
Flowers gratefully declined, however, if so inclined, a donation may be made to the Nanaimo Regional Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
