ROBINSON - Richard (Rob) Fredrick

June 5, 1929 - January 25, 2010

After a heroic battle with cancer, Rob peacefully passed away Jan. 25th at the Palliative Care Unit, with loving family by his side. He leaves behind ‘the love of his life’ Betty Lou, of 55 years; daughters: Linda, Cheri (Jim), Valerie (Eric) and Hillary; as well as grandchildren: Danielle, Drew, Hannah, Holly, Melissa and Tyler and great grandchild Isabella. Rob loved his family and delighted in having his girls so close especially during this battle.

Rob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, moved to California in 1944, attended Occidental College and USC before serving in the Korean War with the US Army Rangers. It was in California that he met Betty, raised his all-girl family and started Automotive Equipment Services and happily retired early in 1984. Rob always enjoyed a vast array of interests and hobbies including flying, boating, hockey, model railroading, photography, woodworking, computers, golf, reading and electronics of any sort. Eventually in 1990, Rob and Betty relocated to Nanaimo where he found ‘his little piece of heaven on earth.

Special thanks to Beverly Snawder, his sister in-law who diligently and lovingly cared for and supported Rob and Betty during this past year. Also Rob’s best buddy, Tom and wife Clara Eymundson, for their love and special friendship. Thank you to Rob’s wonderful Home Care nurses, who attended to his medical needs while becoming his friends and the loving and supportive staff at the Palliative Care Unit.

A Memorial celebrating his life will be held Feb. 6th at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church on Waddington Rd. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo Hospital, 1801 Bowen Rd., Nanaimo, BC
