Richie, Uncle Chee Chee, Rich, Sam age 58, Nanaimo BC.
In memory of a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Richie was known by his family and friends for his great sense of humour and his caring , thoughtful ways. He enjoyed his many years of commercial fishing with his dad, and his brief logging and butcher careers. He loved hunting, sports fishing, camping and spending time with his friends and family.
He will be missed by his mom and dad (Ron and Britt Stevenson), his three sisters (Laurie, Linda, and Lisa), his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his many loyal friends.
Thank you to everyone who has contacted Britt and Ron, to share your memories and kind words with them about their son, Richie. All of you have helped them through this tough time.
Richie was cremated, and his ashes were spread in the ocean at Stephenson Point. By his choice, no service will be held.
Here is a poem written just after his stroke on Dec 16th 1997, by his sister Lisa:
I wish I could find the words to write,
how much my brother has had to fight. Through it all, he's been brave and strong,
yet everything that's happened, seems so wrong. My childhood memories, I'll always keep, but from time to time, they make me weep.
To think of him running, playing and swimming, is a picture in my mind slowly dimming.
I love him so much, and always will ... There's a place in my heart, only he can fill.
