Rick tragically lost his life due to a motorcycle accident. Rick is survived by his parents, Lawrence and Donna Hawkes; his three older sisters, Shirley Siren, Deborah and Katherine Hawkes; his younger twin brothers Terry (Christine) and Trent (Tiffany) Hawkes; and the youngest of the family, his sister Susan (Cory) Hawkes (Rushton) and nieces and nephews; Darren, Penny, Pamela, Kaitlyn, Rebecca, and Taylor. He is also survived by Cory and Krissy Wagner whom he lovingly called his son and daughter and their families.
Rick was born in Woodstock in New Brunswick and moved with the family to Port Alberni in 1969, when his father found work at the Somass Mill. The family prospered in Port Alberni, and in 1979 Rick, Terry and Trent helped their Dad build a new home in Whiskey Creek where his parents still reside.
Rick graduated from Kwalikum Secondary in 1983. He did many interesting jobs until becoming a truck driver in 1985, a job he enjoyed.
Rick loved to hunt and fish and will be greatly missed at the annual family moose hunt. He loved anything to do with cars and trucks, and had a corvette which he dreamed of restoring one day. He was always willing to help anyone in need. There is now a huge hole in the family.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any animal rescue organization.
