Richard Corley Paul

March 9, 2018

Jun 10, 1930 - Mar 9, 2018
Devoted husband, father and son Richard Corley Paul, 87, passed away in the early morning of the 9th of March after a brave battle with cancer.

Richard was born June 10, 1930, along with his twin brother Thomas (Tom) to Agnes and Richard Paul in Menominee, Michigan. At a young age, the family returned to Canada, raising their sons in Montreal, Quebec while enjoying summers in Brockville, Ontario.

Dick is survived by his two children Martha (Joe) and Steven (Robin) and son-in-law, Johan; his seven grandchildren: Josh (Katherine), Sarah-Jane (David), Tom (Sheena), Johan (Brent), Katy, (Shawn), Benjamin and Joseph and his eight great-grandchildren: Lexie, Logan, Bella, Gianna, Ariel, Owen, Travis and Tyler. He also leaves behind a sister in-law Marj, nephew, Doug (Liz) and niece, Beverly (Don), four great-nephews and two great-nieces.

Dick was predeceased by his parents Richard and Agnes, his wife Jane, brother Tom and most recently by his daughter Elizabeth, who passed in October 2017 after her own brave battle with cancer.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather, uncle, great- grandfather, and great-uncle. He was compassionate, kind, smart and dedicated to anything he set his mind to. After a triple bypass surgery and dealing with diabetes, Dick continued to enjoy his time on the water while attempting to teach anyone in his lineage to sail. It was a shock when Dick was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.

He spent his final days at the Palliative Care Unit in Nanaimo who were there for him when he lost his wife, Jane in 2012. The family is forever thankful for their kindness and patience through this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to The First Open Heart Society of B.C. or Nanaimo Lighthouse Ministries. Both organizations were dear to his heart and he served on both boards.

The service for Dick will be at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 4235 Departure Bay Road, Nanaimo on Saturday, April 7 at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow.
