Ralph Forshaw, long-time resident of Nanaimo, B.C., passed away on August 8, 2020 at the age of 87 years.
Born in London, England, Ralph proudly served in the Royal Air Force for two years and was stationed in Egypt. Still a young man, he then emigrated to Canada.
With a passion for living on Canada's West Coast for 47 years, Ralph was a volunteer in many different clubs that meant a lot to him.
A lifelong fan of Manchester United, Ralph went on to coach youth soccer for 26 years. He also volunteered his time at the 7-10 Club, the Lion's Club, and the Salvation Army Kettles.
Ralph really enjoyed making friends at the local garden club, playing cricket, and ping pong to the end. Ralph loved to laugh and make others smile. We are very proud of him as a family.
It was important throughout Ralph's life to help people, by not only connecting with them through his volunteer work and sports, but in particular through his love of languages.
At every single opportunity he studied and spoke French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Greek, Mandarin and German.
Being an avid traveller with a passion for photography, his favourite place on earth was Corfu, Greece.
Ralph was a proud writer, constantly submitting articles promoting justice and peace, and also writing the sweetest stories such as "How The Strawberry Got Its Name." (Published in Gardens West Magazine).
Ralph was happily married for 51 years to his loving wife Joan, whom he met on the Gaspé Coast, Quebec.
He also had two kind and loving sons Jason (Linda) Forshaw and Paul (Clair) Forshaw with a granddaughter on the way.
Most importantly, Ralph loved God and all creation, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and his many friends there.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Trillium, Woodgrove Manor for the loving care Ralph received while he resided there this past year and a half.
There will unfortunately be no formal celebration of life due to the current conditions, but the family would greatly appreciate it, if you have any stories to share, you would please email them to paul@revelco.ca
