Pierrette Jeannine Stones

May 2, 1929 - August 11, 2010

passed away with her family by her side

on August 11, 2010, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, B.C.

at the age of 81. Pierrette is survived by her beloved husband, Ernest; her children, Marc (Deborah), Kelly

(Rod), Carol (Craig), and her loving granddaughter, Jordan. She will be missed by her entire family, including her sister, Yolande Simard Huot; many nieces and nephews, and close friends whom she loved and adored. Pierrette was predeceased by her parents, Jean-Baptist and Germaine Simard (Auger); her brother Jacques, and her sisters, Raymonde Steel and Andrée Simard.

Pierrette was born in Hull, Quebec on May 2, 1929, and was the oldest of five siblings. She loved music and studied piano throughout her life. Pierrette met Ernest in Lima, Peru, in 1956 while working at the Canadian Embassy as a secretary to Canadian Ambassador Benjamin Rogers. Pierrette was proud to have Ambassador Rogers give her away at their marriage ceremony in Lima on June 29, 1957.

Pierrette and Ernest moved to Vancouver in 1957 and, over the next 14 years, relocated to various cities across Canada. In 1971 the family settled in the Lower Mainland. Pierrette then began her career with Air Canada, working in the Inflight Service Department. She retired in 1990. In 1991 the Stones family moved to Nanaimo to be close to their marina business.

Pierrette had a great sense of humour and could laugh at herself. She was caring and selfless and her world revolved around the lives of her husband, children and granddaughter.

A mass will be held for Pierrette at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, on the corner of Fitzwilliam and Machleary, in Nanaimo, on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pierrette’s memory to the BC Cancer Foundation.
