PHYLLIS MAY (Hurst) GANNON

June 1, 2011

GANNON, Phyllis May (Hurst)

Oct. 8, 1913 - June 1, 2011

Phyllis emigrated with her family from England to Nanaimo when she was 7 years of age. She happily spent the next 90 years living in Harewood with her family and later with her beloved husband of 72 years, Jack.

She was predeceased by her parents Philip & Emily Hurst, two brothers, Edward and Albert, her sister Eileen Beattie and husband Jack.

Left to mourn her passing are her three children, Rosalie (Neville), Ron (Wendy) and Shealagh (Gil). Ten Grandchildren, ten Great-grandchildren and two Great-great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Gannon and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thank you to all the family and friends that have visited Mom during the past few months since she broke her hip. Special thanks to Dr. Hepburn the nurses and care workers for their compassion and thoughtfulness.

Cremation and interment at Nanaimo Cemetery has taken place and a family gathering will be held during the summer.

We all knew the love and genuine caring in Phyllis’s smile. We have all worn the beautiful knitted sweaters, hats and smocked dresses. We shared tea and warm scones fresh off the griddle, raspberry jam, time on the beach, apple pie and cookies. We are all in her much loved photos - so many photos. We were the centre of her world and she, the love and home we could always return to.
