March 21, 2012

Phillip Edmund Mackey

November 19, 1929 ~ March 21, 2012

Husband, best friend, father, Grampa and Great-Grampa, will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered.

Phillip was born on November 19, 1929 in London, Ontario, and passed away March 21, 2012 in Nanaimo, British Columbia. He passed away peacefully in Palliative Care, surrounded by his family. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Elezena, who passed away March 8, 2011. He put on a brave front but missed her desperately and we know he is happy to be reunited with the love of his life.

Dad was also predeceased by his mother, Gertrude; brothers: Jack, Jim and Bob; sisters, Rita and Lorraine and granddaughter, Danielle Walkling. He is survived by his youngest sister, Ethel; daughters: Lois (Ken) Walkling and Theresa Mackey (Ron Crawford); son, Phillip Wayne Mackey (Sherly Parenteau); grandchildren: Theresa (Paul) Furlonge, Phillip (Suzie Kelly) Gonyer, David Walkling and Chris, Mira, April and Andrea Mackey; great grandchildren: Gracie and Max Gonyer and Izabella and Eli Furlonge.

Dad served his country proudly in the Naval Air Division of the Canadian Armed Forces from 1947 ~ 1980. He began his service on the East Coast of Canada and, after 33 years, retired on the West Coast on Vancouver Island, where he enjoyed “West Coast Living” with all his family close by.

Our hearts are broken as you have left us, but it gives us great comfort to know you are with Mom again. We love you and we miss you Dad, xo.

No service by request. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
