Philip Einar Olsen, born in Nanaimo on January 31 1957, to Einar and Mary Olsen. Passed away on March 15 2020, of a heart attack, in his beloved hometown. The youngest of five children. He grew up on Townsite Road and attended, and eventually worked at, many of the local schools.
He had an amazing athletic career. He threw the javelin at the 1976 Olympics, and had Queen Elizabeth put a gold medal around his neck at the Commonwealth Games in Calgary. He was a 4x All American at the University of Tennessee. He set records that still stand. Please read more about his illustrious career on his Wikipedia page. He also has a display in the Nanaimo Hall of Fame.
He leaves behind his soulmate Nancy, and his dogs, Thor and Zeus. He would be honoured if donations were made to the SPCA in lieu of flowers.
