Pentti, a loving husband departed the life he loved unexpectedly. Survived by his spouse Janet Rowley, brother, Peter Tikkanen, sister Jaana Nevalainen, mother Marja Tikkanen.
A life well lived is how Pentti's life was often described. His life was fulfilled, he was happy, joyful, loved, and liked by all who had the opportunity to know this special human being. He was grateful for everything there was in his life from relationships down to material things like his sauna.
He was a very talented Graphic Designer and Illustrator. After many years of working for companies he took a leap of faith and started his own, Pentti Design Inc. He was a loving husband and spent 28 years building a life with his wife. They created a life together filled with love, laughter, music and adventure's.
Pentti was proud of his Finnish heritage and embodies the word Sisu, which is often said to explain Finnish people. "Sisu: a word that explains Finland" I believe it captures Pentti's spirit. It literally means 'guts'. It is a magical energy, a life force, a 'second' wind of inner strength. It also denotes stubbornness "I do my own thing" Sisu lets people go beyond what they think they are capable of.
He went to the tops of mountains; beneath the sea; and had the guts to drive in any land he visited, except the UK. He loved the ocean, the mountains and his backyard garden with a big Willow Tree.
He will be remembered as a thoughtful, encouraging, helpful friend who was always full of surprises for those that knew him. He smiled and waved goodbye to us all. There will be a celebration of Pentti's life when we can all gather together safely in his favorite place, his backyard.
