In loving memory ~
Paul Cheuk Sum Mah passed away peacefully at home in Nanaimo, B.C. on February 19, 2023.
Paul was born 1932 in what was formerly known as Canton, China and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He started life in Canada working as a waiter in the Canton Restaurant in Nanaimo's Chinatown and then went on to work in the kitchen of the Diner's Rendezvous. Paul also ran the Terminal and the Occidental Café until he purchased his own restaurant in 1971 called the Double Dragon Inn. He and his wife Kay worked side by side there while raising their five children under foot until they too could work with them. The restaurant was their life and livelihood until their retirement in 1994.
Paul enjoyed walking everyday with Kay and treasured his travels with her in their retirement. He remained active and spry even after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2012. His ten-year battle with the disease, ended peacefully this year.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Kay and is survived by his children, Daisy, Alan (Kim), Michael Ray (Wendy) and Emily, By his grandchildren, Alindy, Kelsey, Rebecca, Amanda, Courtney, Austin, Devin, Kianna and Darren, and his great grandchildren, Annora, Nathaniel, Desmond, and Aria.
The family requests no flowers please. Private service will be held.
