It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Patrick Dennis Geiger announce his sudden passing on December 22, 2020. Pat was born in LaFleche, SK in 1947, lived in Irvin, AB until age six and then moved to Nanaimo with his family.
He is predeceased by his mother, Phyllis, and father, Morley, and father and mother-in-law Anton & Clara Waldbillig, sister-in-law Carmel Moody and brother-in-law Daniel Waldbillig. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Agnes, and his children Anthony (Kristy), Brian (Diana), Stacey, Leanne (Rod) and Kathleen (Corey).
He was a very proud grandpa to Emma & Taylor, Christian & Justin, Krystal & Kyle, Tyler & Matthew, and Caden & Kelton. He is also survived by his brother Gary (Shirley), sister Lynne (Dennis) and sister Joy, his dear friend Gord (Marilyn), his brothers in law, Joe (Ann), Willy (Gladys), Peter (Michelle), Tim (Carrie), and Eugene (Diane), sister-in-law Debbie (Gary), and numerous nephews and nieces.
Pat was a softball, hockey and baseball coach and was a teacher and mentor to many.
In addition to his service as a youth sports coach, Pat was an active community volunteer and served for many years as a member of the service organization, Kinsmen. He was honoured with Life Membership for his service in 1993. He was also involved in the early years of the Child Development Centre and sat on the Board of Directors there for many years.
In his early days, he worked as a fisherman and continued a life-long love of fishing. He worked for over 20 years at Archie Johnstone Plumbing & Heating as a sheet metal worker, and then as the Sheet Metal Estimator. He opened his own business, Tinsmith Mechanical, in 1999 and operated that until his retirement in 2010. Throughout his career he trained and mentored countless apprentices that now work as journeymen sheet metal mechanics, including both his sons, one of his son's in law and a nephew.
Pat had a passion for people and a genuine interest in talking to everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing, travelling, golfing, walks with his beloved wife and could always be found cheering on his children and grandchildren on the sidelines at their varied activities and sports.
He was also an incredible handyman and countless friends and family members benefited from his many talents, wealth of knowledge and his quick and genuine offer of assistance in any way he could.
Pat was and is much loved and will be greatly missed. Our thanks to those who have assisted Pat's family during this very difficult time.
There will be a small family funeral in the New Year with a much larger Celebration of Life when we can all safely gather again.
