Norma Doreen Kitney (nee Holton)

It is with great sadness that the family of Norma announces her sudden passing on January 7, 2011 at the age of 70. Norma was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, N.S. and spent most of her formative years in Oxford, N.S. She joined the RCAF in 1959 and after training was transferred to Winnipeg where she met and married Jim Kitney, her loving husband of 49 years. They lived all over Canada, in France and in Colorado, U.S.A. Norma spent many enjoyable years curling, playing golf, ballroom dancing and camping with family and friends. Lately, she would take long walks on the Buttertubs Marsh walking trail, or on rainy days would be in the gym. She was active in church activities, especially the choir, supported many charities and participated in pro life walks. A truly compassionate, caring and kind woman, her passing is a great loss to her family and friends.

Norma is survived by husband, Jim; three sons: Stephen, Michael and Shawn; sister, Renee; her four young grandchildren: Elizabeth, Rachael, Meggie and James, and numerous cousins and uncles.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. Peter’s Parish, 301 Machleary St., Nanaimo, B.C. In lieu of flowers or donations, it is requested that family and friends consider signing organ donor cards in memory of Norma. Arrangements entrusted with First Memorial Funeral Services, Nanaimo.
