March 28, 1940 - March 2, 2025
In loving memory ~
Nora Lorraine Hunter (nee Allison) was born March 28, 1940 in Rimbey, Alberta, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 2, 2025.
Nora is survived by her daughter Debbie Lamson (husband Kevin), and their sons Ray (Selena) and Robbie (Mariah), and their newborn daughter Elizabeth Nora; son Lyle Newton (wife Jenna), and their sons Carter and Colson; and her son John Newton (wife Pam).
Nora enjoyed a happy childhood on the farm in Alberta, the third of 7 children. She had wonderful memories of time spent with her much-loved siblings. Family meant everything to her. She was predeceased by her brother Don, and is survived by her sisters Gladys, Irene, Bea (Terry), and Judy, and by her brother Byron.
Nora had an excellent work ethic which she instilled in her children. She was proud to have worked in housekeeping at Nanaimo hospital for 25 years, taking no sick days.
Nora's greatest sources of pride were her grandsons. She wholeheartedly embraced and loved every moment spent with them - baking, watching movies, playing board games and dining at Boston Pizza - and she was a constant presence at their basketball, soccer, hockey and baseball games.
Happy and resilient by nature, Nora felt that she was fortunate to have lived such a wonderful life. Such resilience came in handy over the years as she was a diehard Canucks fan, always ready to watch a game or chat about the team.
The last two years of Nora's life were spent in the safe and caring environment of Dover House, and we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff for their kindness and affection towards her.
A huge thank you to the staff at Nanaimo hospital who made Nora's final hours peaceful, comfortable and dignified. Our family is forever grateful.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date - sometime in the spring.
