Neila Ann Jesse Schmidt, age 73, passed away June 2, 2019 at Trillium Lodge in Parksville, BC after battling with kidney disease. She was born June 18, 1945 to Jean and Neil Kerr in Trail, BC and was the youngest of 3 daughters. She is predeceased by her sister Lynn Dombrova. She is survived by her sister Helen (George) Schultz from Parksville BC, niece Shirley (Steve) White from Nanaimo BC, and 4 other nieces and nephews.
Neila went through her school years in Yellowknife NWT then finally settled in Calgary AB where she began her career in the court system. She moved to Canberra Australia where she also worked in the court system before moving back to Canada and finally retiring to Qualicum Beach, BC. During her time in both Canada and Australia, Neila contributed greatly to the communities and churches in which she served.
Neila will be remembered for her intelligence, sincerity, and generous spirit. You were always guaranteed a spirited discussion in which she was not shy about speaking her mind. She was also the first one to help anyone in need.
Neila's memory will be honoured, as she wished, in a private family service. Memorial donations in Neila's name can be made to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society or the SPCA in the region in which you live. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Trillium Lodge Hospice for the attentiveness and gentle care they gave her.
