December 21, 1941 - October 2, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Wenner after a 27+ year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
Murray was born in Wainwright, Alberta then moved to Prince Rupert before finally settling in Nanaimo in 1944 with his parents Orville and Peggy (Chapelhow) where his father started O.R. Wenner Electric.
A graduate of NSHS Class of 1960; Murray was a member of the Nanaimo Curling Club and VI Golf Club for many years plus playing 3rd base for the Tally-Ho Rec. Ball Team. After 45 years as an electrician and retiring as President of Wenner Electric in 2001; Murray turned to travelling, casino visits, and his much-loved passion of gardening, plus hosting friends at the Duck Pub in his backyard or listening to his music. He was also noted for his yearly Halloween and Christmas light displays.
Murray was predeceased by his parents and his sister Carolyn Freeman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46+ years Joyce (nee Raffle) and daughters Kimberlee and Carly (Mike) plus 3 brothers Bob (Roberta), Ken (Sherry) and Norm (Kathy) Wenner and families. He also leaves brothers- in-law Bob (Lynn) Raffle and Wayne Freeman and families, plus numerous cousins, in-laws, and his godson Glenn Nazaruk.
Special thanks go to Wayne Morgan, Ray Neilson, Ron Simon and all the Duck Pub Boys, plus RJH and NRGH Cancer Units' Doctors and Nurses. Flowers are gratefully declined, instead donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society or the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation in his memory.
Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell for me.
First Memorial in charge of cremation. Due to COVID restrictions there will be no funeral at this time.
