Muriel was born in Arlington Heights, Massachusetts, U.S.A. on January 27, 1927 but she grew up in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was quite the singer in her early years and loved music and dancing the jive her whole life. She died at Resthaven Lodge, Sidney, B.C. on June 2, 2017.

She will be missed by her family, the loves of her life: her 5 children Ron (Judi), Bob (Eileen), Bonnie (Ron), Rick (Anne), and Randilee (Jaime), her 8 grandchildren, Rob, John, Lisa, Steve, Corbin, Shayla, Kelsie, and Mackenzie, as well as her 6 great-grandchildren, George, Ethan, Emily, Marco, Nicholas, and Julia.

Mom loved being around people. Her fun spirit and laughter drew everyone to her whether she was on the ferries, golfing, working her demo table at Costco, or playing cards with her friends. She loved baking for everyone and is known for her wonderful pies, cookies, fudge and blackberry jelly. A great memory is of her sitting on her deck enjoying the sunshine and sharing her toast and jam with any visiting family dogs.

Mom was the eldest of Elma and Harold Polley’s 6 children: (Fred, David, Vera, Marjorie, and Butch). Married at 18 she moved to Vancouver with her new naval husband (Ron). She had many adjustments to make to her new life as she became a mother at 19 and was so far away from her own family. In her working years, Mom was most proud of becoming the first female chief steward on BC Ferries. She had a very rewarding career.

We are all so thankful for the excellent care and support she received from all the staff at Ross Place and at Resthaven Lodge.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

No flowers, please but if you wish to make a donation to the Diabetes Foundation
