Rees, Midge (Marjorie Josephine) passed peacefully on March 18 in her 101st year...sharp-minded to the end.
Midge was born in London England. She loved the ballet, the stage shows and the bright lights. In 1948, she and her husband John, with their two small children immigrated to Canada and settled at Departure Bay...it was a very bad case of culture shock.
Always looking on the bright side, she just got busy and made the most of it. She worked at Jean Burns Ltd. for many years, sold real estate at Northbrook/Woodgrove Realty and in retirement, she owned and operated Maple Hill Tack Shop, which was attached to her home.
She belonged to the Daughters of the Nile, the Kinette Club, Nanaimo Horticultural Society, and was a founding member of the Nanaimo Theatre Group. She loved to sing, dance and entertain and participated in many Lions Club Minstrel Shows, and Nanaimo Theatre Group productions.
She loved Nanaimo, and always remarked what a stroke of luck it was to spend most of her life here.
She was predeceased by her husband John, and is survived by her three children, Carole Davidson (Earl), Michael Rees (Debra) and Barbara Parker (Gordon), her grandchildren Dean Davidson (Bea), D'Arcy Davidson, Michelle Wallace and Steven Parker...also 5 great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to the staff of Berwick-on-the-Lake for their kind and loving care, and a special thank you to Dr. Diane Wallis with whom she shared a quirky sense of humour. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the SPCA, Nanaimo Hospital Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
