Michael Vass

April 8, 1920- December 21, 2016.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael after a brief stay at NRGH.

Michael was born in Veces Hungary, and is predeceased by his parents Barbara and Michael Vass Sr. his wives Jolan, Roza, & Sylvia, and his son, Timothy. Michael first immigrated to Canada with his wife Jolan in 1952 and their three children, Nikolaus, Martha, and Mary. First settling in Ladysmith, Michael and family then relocated to Nanaimo in 1955 to his beloved home on Halliburton Street where Jolan and he welcomed their final child Timothy in 1961, and where Michael resolutely resided until his death. To those who knew him, Michael had an uncompromising strong faith in God, along with his strong will, evidenced by his determination to flee Hungary with his young wife and children amidst revolutionary times in the early 1950s as well as his admirable work ethic in the logging industry as a faller until 1985. Michael was a great provider, patriarch and symbol of longevity to his family and friends.

Michael is survived by his sister Ilona Tiser, son Nick Vass and wife Arlene, daughter Mardy Ensign and husband Keith, daughter Mary Keller, grandchildren, Corey and wife Becky, Doran, Tyler, Stephanie, Randy and wife Karen, Veronica and husband Arthur, Tanis, Jeffrey and wife Brandi, Heidi and husband Jason and his great-grandchildren Jaycie, Laynie, Cody, Lincoln, Landen and Owen.

The funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11am at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, B.C. Refreshments to follow.
