It is with great sadness that we announce that Merna Mineva Keswick passed away peacefully on July 27, 2017 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Born on July 20, 1933 in Scotsgard, Saskatchewan, and growing up in Paradise Hills, Saskatchewan, Merna spent many years in Nanaimo working hard, and raising her family, with time spent in Kindersley, Saskatchewan to run a restaurant.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Robert “Bob” in 1988, her parents Frank and Margaret Bastian, brother Lorne Bastian in 2010, brother Alen Owen “Bud” Bastian, and sister Dorothy Allenvy in 2016. Merna is survived by her children; Karen Racicot, Doug (Joan), Robert (Lisa), and Kevin (Angie), grandchildren Tamara, Jorie, Kaitha, Jason, Steve, Tiniel, Kristi, Ashley, Meghan, Cara, and 13 loving great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Vera Bentz, devoted niece Carol Wesley, best friend Karen Mortenson, long-time border and friend Brenda Tisnic, and friend Wayne Davis.

A celebration of life will be held for Merna

on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00am,

in Sands Funeral Chapel,

One Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC.

Flowers gratefully declined. For those so desiring, donations may be made in Merna’s memory

to the BC Cancer Foundation.
