Melvin Leslie Stauffer (Les)
passed away on December 31, 2014 in Nanaimo BC at the age of 62. Les is survived by his four daughters Melissa, Stephanie, Jennifer and Tracy and his 5 grandchildren (Makayla, Mellsa, Ethan, Nicole and Andrew). He will be missed by a great many people, including his siblings - Cheryl, Beverley, Barb, Allan, Dwayne, and Lyle.
Les was a proud member of the Namgis band, born in Alert Bay BC and raised by Melvin Ivy (predeceased) and Harriet Stauffer(predeceased). He enjoyed living in Courtenay, Powell River and Nanaimo but always considered Alert Bay home. He was involved in many community activities and was the President of the Royal Canadian Legion #198 from 1990 to 1993.
Les fished along BC’s coast and worked for BC Ferries for over 30 years on the Alert Bay and Little River routes.
Les is predeceased by his mother Kathleen Olney and sister Alana.
A celebration of life will be held in Alert Bay at the Royal Canadian Legion on January 17, 2015 at 1 pm. Donations can be made to Variety the Children’s Charity.
