BOYD, May Elizabeth
July 21, 1915 – May 14, 2014
It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to our dear mum May Boyd on May 14, 2014.
May Elizabeth Boyd was born in Nanaimo on July 21, 1915 and was just shy of her 99th birthday.
May was predeceased by her husband Orville in 1980, her sister Nellie in 2008 and her eldest son James Neil in 2003. She leaves behind her younger son Orville (Ruth), her daughter-in-law Penny and her much loved granddaughter Danielle. She also leaves behind her niece Diane Dow, nephew Douglas Platt, great nephews Harry and Rob (Andrea) Dow and two great great nieces Emma and Brynna Dow.
Mum graduated as an R.N. from Royal Columbian Hospital in 1936, nursed for several years in Nanaimo, later returning to work in the Nanaimo Indian Hospital, and Coqualeetza Hospital in Sardis. She finished her career at Shaughnessy Hospital in Vancouver.
Following her retirement, mum enjoyed spending time with her family and in her garden with her special buddy Brandy. She also enjoyed holidays in Europe, Australia and Asia.
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff at Keeping House who cared for mum over the past 3 years, to Dr. Lane her family physician of many years and finally to the angels in palliative care at NRGH.
There will be a graveside service at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens on May 20th at 1:00 pm for close friends and family. No flowers by request but donations to the SPCA in honour of her beloved Brandy will be greatly appreciated.
