It is with great sadness that the family of Mavis ('May') Williams announce her passing in Nanaimo, BC on October 27th, 2021 at the grand age of 90. Fiercely independent and inspiringly feisty to the very end, May finally succumbed after a courageous three-year battle with ill health.
Born Mavis Mamwell on July 6th, 1931 and raised in the Yorkshire/Lancashire border town of Todmorden, England, May immigrated to Canada in 1968. Initially settling in Oshawa, Ont., she later lived in Port Hope for many years. In 2011 May left Ontario to relocate to Vancouver Island to be close to her sister Annette, brother-in-law Derek, niece Susan and nephew-in-law David in Nanaimo, and niece Lindsay and nephew-in-law Pete in Kelowna.
An elegant, stylish and cultured woman of refined tastes, May kept fit with long walks and line dancing 3-4 times per week until the age of 87, also enjoying the beauty and wonder of nature, opera classical music, and romantic movies and TV shows.
May's family would like to express gratitude to the staff of First Memorial Funeral Services, and particularly to Brent Keeping and his staff at Keeping House Care Facility Ltd. for their care and compassion during May's final hours.
