Maureen J. Blue (nee Richards)

Maureen J. Blue, (nee Richards) 78, of Nanaimo, BC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones at the Palliative Care Unit, NRGH.

Maureen, born in Wpg MB was predeceased by her parents Anne and William Richards of Winnipeg, her son Nickolas Lodge and her brothers, Donald, Joseph and sister Joyce McTaggart (Jerry) of Wpg.

Maureen is survived by her husband and partner of 40 years David Blue, two daughters, Maureen Lodge of Cedar, BC, Katherine Lodge-Childs (Mike Hogan) of Nanaimo, BC, Stepdaughter Mindy Blue-Harley (Dave Harley) of Nanaimo, BC, 5 granddaughters Christine Dafoe, Laura Lodge, Megan Lodge, Jessica Childs and Rebecca Lodge-Childs and grandson Michael McElree, Uncle Don Goodwin of Winnipeg, brother Conrad Richards (Sandy) of Winnipeg, and Gail Richards of Ont., Brothers in Law Randy, Darrell and Greg Blue, and growing number of great grandchildren as well as her beloved dog ‘Misty’, who loyally stayed with mom throughout her illness.

Maureen loved animals especially her dogs and had a soft place in her heart for bears. She took her strength from the bear clan when her health needed it and when her children and foster kids tried her patience although her love outlived the frustration of growing teenagers.

Maureen’s grandchildren were a pride and joy every summer when they were growing up. She loved and was proud of all of them. Maureen spent almost 20 years fostering youth in BC.

Maureen will be equally missed by her best friend, Shirley Bolton of Winnipeg and her children who called her Aunt Maureen. Maureen considered Shirley as a sister along with Donna Gendron (David), Mary Ann Shillaker (Ron) and Olga Wachel.

The family would like to thanks all her friends for allowing her to be such an important part of their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Trinity United Church, 6234 Spartan Rd, Nanaimo, BC. on 24th February at 2:00 pm.
