In Loving Memory ~ Maureen Cecilia Mitchener, of Nanaimo, BC, passed away on November 20, 2021, aged 87, in Nanaimo.
Maureen was born in Powell River to Neil McCrossan and Jeanne (nee Simard) McCrossan on January 29, 1934. She went to school in Powell River and, during a period of ill health of her mother, to a convent dormitory school in Nanaimo.
She married Jack Mitchener on June 18, 1955 in Powell River. She and her husband met while working as telegraph operators. Jack was an International Morse code operator on a weather ship and eventually in Prince Rupert: Maureen was a Morse code operator with Canadian Pacific, stationed in Kelsey Bay and then Prince Rupert.
Maureen was always fun and full of life, devoted to her husband. Together, they had many adventures in dance and on treks off the beaten path.
Maureen was the last of her siblings, and was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by her four children, by nine grandchildren, and by 11 great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by her widely-strewn friends and family.
The family will mourn privately.
